{Disruptive Technologies: Part 1}
Dear friends, it’s been a long time since I published my last blog. Apologies for that.
I was thinking lately to share with you what I think the future would be. So today, I am here to stress upon those thoughts.
Human beings have always been an evolutionary animal. They evolved from a vulnerable to dominating species that too within a very short span of time. But considering the speed of evolution, this decade is witnessing, we can surely conclude that the evolution has become faster as never before. There is skepticism worldwide about automation, A.I. and climate change. We are facing global issues such as protectionism, terrorism, and declining existentialism. Its a race which is quite competitive. Life and the joy of living have taken a backseat. But optimism can lead us to evolve and reverse the trend. Researches are going on as to how to improve the standard of living and provide the greater good to humanity. Let's hope things go only upside from here.
What is a disruption? It is a disturbance which interrupts any event or activity. Though the word seems negative in its meaning, but, in technological or business sense, its a game-changing word.
Examples include:
Examples include:
1. JIO: The telecom disruptor. It changed the way we use mobile data. Jio has crossed 160 million subscribers within a year which is a record in itself.
2. Tesla: Though Electronic Vehicle technology is in its nascent stage, but the things are growing swiftly. The Elon Musk founded company has brought a revolution in Automobile Industry. Now we see the big daddys of automobile investing in EVs and several joint ventures happening for battery and car development. India has a plan to go all electric by the end of 2030. Tesla success is very much responsible for that.Tesla launched E- Semi trucks and full roadster earlier this month. Mind you Tesla is still to arrive in India.
3. Payment banks in India: The payment banks in India are changing the way we bank. Though they are not comparable to traditional banks, they are providing ease of access, transfer, payment etc. to the customers.
Well, whether you love it or hate it, technology is going to decide human fate. According to me, these are the disruptive technologies which will change everything right from the way we communicate to the way we travel.
1. Artificial intelligence (A.I.):- A.I. is the application of machine learning where any device analyzes its environment and takes action accordingly and maximizes its chance of success at some goal. It is as good as human intelligence. Its basically built upon reasoning, knowledge, planning, learning, natural language processing. To start with we have seen the application of A.I. in all aspects of life. We have seen Sofia the humanoid which has been given citizenship by Saudi Arabia as a very significant development. It is being used in banking, in Internet Of Things(IoT), telecommunication, social media, automobile industry, and even in airplanes and ship navigation.
The scope of artificial intelligence is too wide and broad. We have seen a feud between Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook and Elon Musk of Tesla having a different perspective about artificial intelligence. One says that artificial intelligence is for a better good whereas the other sees it as a threat to our future. So, what we need to understand now is that we have to use these technologies in a better way so that they don’t become a threat to humanity. Also, there is a threat of job losses due to automation.

Obviously, it is a scary situation imagining that the humanoids are able to have human-like traits and they are able to learn and evolve. It is called machine learning. This basically can be a big problem for humanity. Already the technology has defeated the seasoned players of chess and other such games showing its strategy superiority.
But if used with caution, and for benefit of human beings, it is going to be a very disruptive technology. For example, the artificial intelligence used in the field of Medical Science can cure many acute diseases. Using AI in traffic, railway management and numerous such fields can do wonders. So keeping our fingers crossed, we can expect artificial intelligence to change the way we lead our life.
2. Internet of Things: The Internet of things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances, and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators, and network connectivity which enables these objects to connect and exchange data. I.O.T. is changing the way we use our equipment. Just imagine you have a chip embedded under your skin and with that you can control your entire home. You have TVs, microwaves, geysers, AC, lights and what not connected WiFi and can be controlled by your smartphone from any part of the world. This is not a dream but a reality indeed.
Few applications of IOTs are :
1.Wearable devices
2. Smart appliances
3. Connected cars.
We have already seen smartphones, smart watches, smart lightings and sounds. As the technology is evolving, in the near future we will see a comprehensive integration of these elements and that will be a fully integrated smart solution.
The future seems quite different imagining the scope of these technologies. The initiative of smart cities by the government is fully dependent upon IOTs. Creation of IT highways, optimum connectivity, and maximum convenience is the aim of these smart cities. With these technologies comes great responsibilities. There is always a threat of what ifs but continuous endeavor will equip us to tackle those what ifs.
On that positive note, I wind up this post. To know more, please visit the second part of this post.
